Davis family fun facts

Grace Elizabeth Davis was the second daughter of Nish and Sarah Davis. She never married, lived most of her adult life in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She moved there to work in the dry cleaners, which was owned by David Saunders. He was the husband of Isabelle Diffee Saunders. Isabelle was the sister of Grace's sister's husband. Elgie Davis Diffee was her sister and my Grandmother. Grace lived and worked alongside the Saunders all of her life, but went often to Ophir to see her parents and be a part of the family farm life. She loved the land, wildflowers, needle crafts and the home place in Ophir on Flint Road. She also attended the church in Ophir as well as the First Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. She loved cats and had a big white one, I think called Sugar, for a long time. Grace was the most elegant and proper woman in the Davis family that I knew. She always was dressed impeccably, hair perfect but she also looked perfectly at ease in her hikers and straw hat - trekking through the woods and over creeks looking for wildflowers. She made an entire crocheted wardrobe for a doll I received from Santa one Christmas. It was beautiful. She even made the doll case for the clothes to hang in. I think I learned my love for needle crafts and my appreciation for the old arts from Aunt Grace. I'm happy to have known and loved her. Denise Newly scanned photos of Grace through the years… Isn't she lovely? Also one with her sister (my grandmother) Elgie when they were just 11 and 14 by a very fancy car in the mid 20's. Wish I could have see them back then!
